Ireland contains 32 counties that each possess a unique geography, people and history. However, Ireland as a whole has been charming visitors for decades with her lush green countryside, mountains and rivers, seascapes, quaint towns, and bustling cities. Historically, the "Emerald Isle" was inhabited by the Celts and other settlers from parts of what is now Scotland, England and central Europe. Celtic culture, landmarks, language, and music remain a true part of the identity of Ireland today.
In more recent years, Ireland has enjoyed an economic revitalization, which has made transportation around the island more convenient and has added an international flavor to the major metropolitan areas such as Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and Belfast. Even so, students and interns frequently participate in the traditional Irish practices of conversing over a pint in a pub, walking through the scenic hills, or exploring the historical sites in efforts to discover and appreciate this beautiful island.
