Intern in Belize

Program Information

Intern and gain excellent personal and professional experience in the beautiful and diverse setting of San Ignacio, Belize.  San Ignacio is an attractive market town set among tropical hills and home to a diverse population of Maya, Creole, European, Garifuna, Mestizo, East Indian, Chinese and Mennonite populations.  Belizeans are known for their warmth and hospitality, which makes this setting ideal for those looking to provide their skills to a very receptive community.

Interns work within the community and one of our affiliated non-governmental organizations (NGO's), government social programs or a self-initiated project.  Projects are determined by community need as well as interns' skills and interests.  Interns can expect a mutually beneficial experience as part of real, sustainable development and professional growth.  A designated Project Coordinator guides each intern through the project planning, execution, and conclusion phases of their program.

On-site, you will live in San Ignacio or a nearby community, work with local partners, and receive extensive support from our international staff team and welcoming community partners.  Homestays and cultural/adventure excursions encourage participants' complete immersion and cultural integration into Belizean life.  While many weekends are left free for independent travel and exploration, on select weekends the program offers cultural visits to local area attractions as well as the opportunity during the week to take part in local cultural workshops.  Cultural and adventure excursions include visits to Mayan ruins, river explorations, hikes in the lush rainforests and local festivals.
