Spend four or six weeks this summer in Spain, enhancing your Spanish language skills while immersing yourself in the local culture of this world-class city, even if you have no previous Spanish studies. Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain and capital of the region of Catalunya, provides an ideal environment to experience the local Spanish culture including restaurants, nightlife, parks, sport, art, beaches and outdoor recreation areas. Participants will receive intensive language training and have the opportunity to practice their newly acquired language skills both inside and outside of the classroom. Affordable cost, homestay or apartment living, fun cultural immersion activities, and local and weekend excursions, make this the ideal summer program in Spain.
Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and is situated on its northeastern coast on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. The beauty of Barcelona lies in the juxtaposition of ancient and modern. The Romans settled here 2000 years ago and laid the foundations of a cosmopolitan, coast-lined metropolis located between the Mediterranean sea and the mountains. Today, both of these natural resources still deserve acclaim among the locals along with the incredible modernist architecture of Antoni Gaudí – adding to the 9 World Heritage Sites in this vibrant city.
The world renowned Gothic quarter, the Modernist architecture of Gaudí and the parks, buildings and infrastructure of the 21st century combine to make Barcelona a world-class city. Walk down the bustling pedestrian strip of las ramblas to enjoy cafes, restaurants, market stalls and museums while marveling at the "statuesque" street performers. The coastline boasts a spectacular boardwalk that especially comes to life at night, as well as seven spectacular beaches. Students will find Barcelona to be an exceptional classroom and are encouraged to soak up all this city has to offer both in and out of the classroom.
Intensive language and cultural training and orientation, cultural activities such as "intercambios" with local students, cooking class and re-entry workshops are all included in the program to make it as much of a cultural experience as an academic one.
Participants can choose between home stay accommodations with a local family, an apartment with other international and local students, or a room in a residence hall with other international and local students.
Home stay includes: two meals per day, fully-furnished, once-per-week cleaning, bedding and towels
Apartment includes: shared room (single room can be requested), fully-furnished, once-per-week cleaning, kitchen stocked with utensils, bedding and towels
Residence hall includes: shared room, fully-furnished, once-per-week cleaning, kitchen stocked with utensils, bedding and towels
This program takes place at the prestigious Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, which has various campuses and programs throughout Barcelona and Catalunya. The program base for Spanish language students is in an upscale area of the city, with one building a UNESCO World Heritage site. Students enjoy mingling with other local and international students on campus, all the while enjoying extensive support services and planned activities courtesy of our on-site staff.

“As I sit here on my second to last night in Barcelona, with tears streaming down my face, I struggle with the fact that I just cannot put into words what I want to express. What this trip has meant to me. How I will never be the same.”
