Intern in Ghana

Program Information

Intern and gain excellent personal and professional experience in this beautiful country steeped in history.  Ghana, Africa's first independent former colony, is today a democracy that enjoys political stability and is known for being a safe, hassle-free, friendly destination for visitors.  Cape Coast is set amongst beautiful beaches and previously one of the largest slave holding sites in the world.  In the 17th century, Cape Coast grew from a small fishing village to an important trading port and the center of West Africa's slave trade, later becoming the first capital of Britain's Gold Coast colony.  Today this vibrant town is capital of Ghana's Central Region and home to over 100,000 people and some of the country's leading academic institutions.

Interns work within the community and one of our affiliated non-governmental organizations (NGO's), government social programs or a self-initiated project.  Projects are determined by community need as well as interns' skills and interests.  Interns can expect a mutually beneficial experience as part of real, sustainable development and professional growth.  A designated Project Coordinator guides each intern through the project planning, execution, and conclusion phases of their program.

On-site, you will live in Cape Coast or a nearby community, work with local partners, and receive extensive support from our international staff team and welcoming community partners.  Homestays, language study, and cultural/adventure excursions encourage participants' complete immersion and cultural integration into Ghanaian life.  While many weekends are left free for independent travel and exploration, on select weekends the program offers cultural visits to local area attractions as well as the opportunity during the week to take part in local language classes and cultural workshops.
