If you’re bored of the same old spring break routine, then make a real difference this year with ProMexico’s Hands on Health Care program. On top of immersing you in Oaxaca’s rich cultural history, this program allows you to gain hands on experience in rural health clinics, elder care facilities, HIV clinics or organizations that promote public health. Health volunteers may also have the opportunity to work on diabetes and general nutrition promotion, vaccination campaigns, and dental programs. You will spend weekends exploring ancient Zapotec ruins, petrified waterfalls, and all the art, music and cultural history that Oaxaca, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has to offer.
Depending on past experience and level of Spanish, participants may be placed in rural health clinics, an elder care facility, HIV clinic, or organizations that promote public health. Past projects have included diabetes and general nutrition promotion, vaccination campaigns, dental programs, and more. Participants without previous healthcare experience will have meaningful volunteer placements in education and other settings. Final project placements are based on the site director's assessment and community need.
This rewarding experience also includes discussions with local healthcare professionals, cultural engagements with local communities, and adventure excursions to surrounding sites of interest.
Group living in local accommodations. Most meals will be provided.
