Come experience traditional Peruvian culture in the center of the ancient Incan empire while addressing major environmental issues brought on by modernization. The Sacred Valley is a wonder of the natural world and well known for the prosperous civilizations that flourished during pre-Colonial times and still remain greatly rooted in their centuries-old customs. Between the incredible backdrop of the Andes and rich cultural heritage of Cusco and its surrounding areas, this stunning environment provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to enhance academic and professional skills, as well as their appreciation of other cultures.
The cleaner burning stove project is successfully reducing carbon emissions, slowing the depletion of native plant species and preventing health issues related to pulmonary disease and vision impairment due to smoke inhalation. Volunteering in collaboration with ProWorld, you will work with rural Andean communities to install these stoves int he homes of individual families, assist with education workshops and contribute to reforestation efforts.
In addition, volunteers live with a local family, enjoy excursions to explore the beauty of the landscape, and immerse themselves in the local culture. On weekends and in your spare time, opportunities are available to visit ancient Incan ruins, hike to Andean lakes and glaciers, and participate in traditional Peruvian festivals in and around our base in the Sacred Valley.
During the two week program, students can expect cultural or outdoor adventures as well as project outings. Excursions may include:
Accommodations are provided with a local Peruvian family in a private room with a shared bathroom. All meals will be provided.
