Summer Environmental Conservation

Program Information

Come immerse in Thailand’s rich cultural heritage while preserving its natural resources through participation in a worthwhile development project in the northern city of Chiang Mai. Working side by side with local communities, participants help preserve the lush forests that serve as a vital community resource for food, herbs, medicine and wood, but are quickly being degraded by rampant deforestation and unsustainable farming practices. Volunteers will live with local Thai families to help them integrate with the friendly local population in the “Land of Smiles.” On
excursions, participants will also have the opportunity to explore the region with visits to national parks, ancient Buddhist temples and cultural festivals.

Volunteers work in groups within the community and one of our affiliated non-governmental organizations (NGO's). Projects are determined by community need as well as interns' skills and interests. Participants can expect a mutually beneficial experience as part of real, sustainable development and professional growth.  A designated Project Coordinator guides each volunteer through the project planning, execution, and conclusion phases of their program. The group atomosphere allows for interaction and reflection with like-minded volunteers.

Cultural events and excursions enhance immersion in the local culture and appreciation of the country's beauty and history.  In addition to your own exploring, enjoy trekking into national parks that house various hill tribe communities; exploring ancient temples and traditional markets.
