This unique spring break program is designed specifically for Nursing majors and investigates healthcare delivery methods on the eastern Caribbean island of Dominica. The program is a rare opportunity to gain clinical experience in the primary and secondary healthcare systems of a developing nation. Additionally, local cultural practices will be explored, including the use of traditional and herbal therapies to promote health and treat illness.
JU Nursing students will complete the necessary coursework for this program on campus during the Spring semester. Students will then spend the week of Spring Break in Dominica experiencing the country and culture they have discussed and learned about in their classes on campus.
Dominica itself is an English-speaking island nation, containing lush tropical rainforests, beautiful rivers, cascading waterfalls, and of course, beaches! Join JU Nursing faculty this spring break and give back to a community in need while gaining clinical experience on a tropical Caribbean island.
Shared hotel rooms. Accommodations will be basic with shared facilities.
NUR 424: Nursing in Dominica (2 elective credits): Students will participate in the health care delivery systems of Dominica through clinical exposure in clinics and hospitals on the island.
