Summer in Valladolid

Program Information

Spend four weeks this summer in Spain, enhancing your Spanish language skills while immersing yourself in the local culture of this charming city.  This medium-sized city and capital of the Region of Castilla y León provides an ideal environment to experience the local Spanish culture including restaurants and nightlife, parks, and outdoor recreation areas.  Participants will receive excellent and immersive language training and have the opportunity to practice their newly acquired language skills both inside and outside of the classroom.  Affordable cost, homestay placements, and local weekend excursions make this the ideal summer program in Spain.

Valladolid is situated north of Madrid and boasts a unique blend of modern and ancient culture and architecture.  Former residences of famous literary and historical figures such as Miguel de Cervantes (author or Don Quijote) and Christopher Columbus (we won't go there) can be visited.  The language course are held at the University of Valladolid, which blends historical buildings in the Baroque and Renaissance architectural styles with a modern library, sports facilities and classrooms, and many modern conveniences.  The University counts on an ideal location, with a classic cathedral and plaza nearby.

Three excursions are offered during the course of the summer program and are meant to enhance the classroom lectures by allowing students to put their language to use through guided tours.  Students are accompanied by a teacher and are given free time to enjoy the visits at their own leisure to explore the culturally-rich region.  In the past, excursions have been organized to must-see locations in the region, such as Salamanca, Segovia, and the castles and villages around Valladolid.
