Semester in Ormskirk

Program Information

Capture the true British experience during this semester in the charming and friendly 12th century market town of Ormskirk. Close to the cities of Liverpool and Manchester and well placed for students to take full advantage of all that the North West has to offer, this program offers a welcoming and diverse educational community for all students.  Students can expect a great opportunity to befriend the locals, as the program is host to only a limited amount of international students.  The town's special blend of character and history mingles well with modern shopping outlets and a host of recreational facilities.

Whatever your interests are, the region offers opportunities for a wide range of culture and leisure pursuits: live music , theatre, sports, cinema, walking, the arts or shopping.  Visit the beautiful Lake District, moody Yorkshire Moors or traditional seaside towns in North Wales.  In the past 3 years, the program site at Edge Hill University has been awarded Commendations for Teaching and Learning in every subject review and has a growing reputation in the United Kingdom as one of the country’s highest quality universities.

Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008, is only a 30 minute train ride away. You might want to explore one of its many museums, retrace the steps of the Beatles, see a play in one of the theatres or watch a game of premiership soccer.  Liverpool, a cosmopolitan city with well-established Irish, African, Caribbean, Jewish, and Muslim communities, is home to Europe's oldest Chinatown.  A short train ride from Liverpool is Manchester. This is the ideal location for enjoying West-End shows, live music events, shopping at the Trafford Centre - not forgetting that it is home to Manchester United Football Club.

Housing

Students will be housed in one of the 700 single study bedrooms on campus. There is a team of Resident Hall Managers, who are members of staff and who live on campus to provide students with guidance and support 24 hours a day.

Bed linen is supplied in most of the halls, but you will need to bring towels and personal items.
