The fourth most populous city in Spain and capital of the southern region called Andalucía, Seville, or Sevilla, is an exceptional destination for students looking to explore rich cultures, diverse landscapes and Spanish academics. Seville lies on the banks of the Guadalquivir River and is one of the largest historical centers in Europe. A modern European city with a Spanish identity and Roman and Moorish past, Seville is sure to intrigue all who visit. While Seville's proximity to various domestic and international places of interest provides an excellent "jumping off point", the pleasant climate, colorful people, and vibrant culture make visitors to Seville contemplate leaving to explore other places with fears of missing out on what's happening locally.
Students in Seville often enjoy tapas at a riverside café, Flamenco music and dancing, or simply taking an afternoon to wander the streets adorned with flowered balconies, hidden patios and beautiful parks. The historic downtown is the location of the exquisite Alcázar palace, the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world, a lively street life, and modern eateries and shops. It usually takes a late afternoon siesta to keep at the pace of the Spaniards, so join the rest as they close up shop and return from work or school to recharge for the night's activities.
The semester program is at Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO). The setting is unique in that it offers classes in both English and Spanish to fall and spring semester students. With its 8,000 students and ample campus facilities, the University provides a comfortable setting for study abroad students to interact with locals in or out of the classroom. The friendly campus is considered to have a small city feel with its range of social, cultural and sporting activities.
Students will be housed with a local Spanish family in a private, single room within the host family’s home. Breakfast and dinner will be provided daily as well as weekly laundry services. All accommodation is easily accessible by public transportation. Self-catering apartments are also available.
